CMCP Features

What the CMCP Provides

  • A customized installation of Voyant Tools (a tool developed by Stéfan Sinclair and Geoffrey Rockwell): This interface provides word frequency analysis across all ten McCarthy novels and has been customized to prohibit viewing the original text.
  • An interface to search McCarthy’s novels by sentence structure: Using the output from the Stanford Log-linear Part-Of-Speech Tagger, this search engine reports what percentage of sentences in each McCarthy novel match a structure provided by the user. This interface is still being developed, and feedback is welcome.
  • Additional reports on various lexical, etymological, and stylistic analyses will be added as they are completed.

What the CMCP Does Not Provide

Out of respect to the copyright of McCarthy’s writings, the CMCP does not provide access to the full-text of his novels. Besides word clouds, line charts, and summary statistics, results of users’ analyses are limited to 11-word segments of text and/or five sentences that match users’ query. It is hoped that these tools point readers and researchers, fans and theorists back to MCarthy’s works, that they will add to our appreciation of the work.
